ELLS students interview author of the best-selling Ferryman trilogy

Four students from the ELLS programme interviewed Claire McFall, the Scottish author of the Ferryman trilogy of novels, which have sold over 4 million copies in Chinese translation. Carol, Marcella, Shelly and Tammy took turns to quiz Claire about the inspiration for Ferryman, the influence of her Scottish background, the origin of the main characters, Dylan and Tristan, and the progress of plans to make Ferryman into a major Hollywood movie. The interview was hosted by UIC Professor John Corbett and also involved scholars from Macau Polytechnic University who are researching Scottish literary connections with China. Talking via Zoom from her home in America, Claire spoke about how the translation of the novels into Chinese changed her life and about her plans to return to China to promote her new novel. We look forward to seeing her in person in Zhuhai once she is again able to travel!
